Strategic Management Student Visit to Susia Garden

Integrating Sustainability, Strategy, and Social Impact

As part of their experiential learning journey, students from the Strategic Management course at IPMI International Business School conducted a site visit to Susia Garden, a pioneering urban farming initiative located along the Ciliwung River in Kalibata, South Jakarta.

This immersive visit offered students a real-world perspective on sustainable business practices, community-based entrepreneurship, and the strategic revitalization of urban spaces. Once a neglected and polluted area, Susia Garden has been transformed into a vibrant eco-tourism destination—showcasing how visionary leadership and community engagement can create both environmental and economic value.

Through dialogue with the founder and hands-on observation of daily operations, students gained a deeper understanding of how local enterprises can tackle urban challenges, promote food security, and empower surrounding communities. Key concepts such as value creation, social entrepreneurship, and business model innovation were brought to life through the garden’s unique “Petik, Timbang, Bayar” approach—allowing visitors to harvest, weigh, and pay for produce directly.

Beyond the classroom insights, the visit was also a personal awakening for many students. As one participant reflected:
