IPMI Institute proudly served as the Host and Academic & Knowledge Partner for the One-Day National Workshop on Advancing Indonesia’s Food Regulatory System, held on 1 September 2026 in Jakarta.
The strategic workshop was convened as part of the Pre-WNPG XII Strategic Initiative, under the theme:
“Enabling Consumer Protection, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Agri-Food Competitiveness Through Innovation-Ready Food Regulation.”
The forum gathered senior government leaders, regulators, international experts, academia, and industry stakeholders to accelerate Indonesia’s transition toward a science-based, risk-informed, transparent, and innovation-ready food regulatory system.

The workshop was officially opened by Indonesia’s key national leaders:

The Head of BPOM emphasized that Indonesia’s regulatory transformation must balance strong consumer protection with innovation readiness, ensuring that regulatory systems evolve alongside scientific and technological advancement.

In his opening address, the Minister highlighted that food regulation plays a central role in Indonesia’s long-term development agenda, particularly in strengthening food security, public health, and economic competitiveness.

Prof. Chen highlighted Singapore’s integrated approach to food innovation, where research, regulation, and industry collaboration are developed in parallel to support future-ready food systems.

Prof. Godefroy emphasized the importance of strengthening regulatory science capacity, international benchmarking, and evidence-based governance as foundations for global competitiveness.

The workshop convened 87 participants from across Indonesia’s food regulatory landscape, including:
- Government ministries and regulatory agencies
- Academic and research institutions
- Food industry and private sector stakeholders
- International development organizations
Key institutions included Bappenas, BPOM, National Food Agency, BPJPH, BRIN, universities, and global partners.

The workshop focused on strengthening Indonesia’s food regulatory system through:
1. Science- and Risk-Based Regulation
Strengthening evidence-based decision-making aligned with international Codex standards.
2. Regulatory Coordination and Governance
Improving cross-institutional coordination to reduce fragmentation and enhance policy coherence.
3. Innovation-Ready Regulatory Pathways
Developing predictable and transparent approval systems for food innovation and industry development.
4. Regulatory Science Capacity Building
Strengthening laboratories, expert networks, and data systems for exposure and risk assessment.
5. Global Alignment and International Cooperation
Enhancing Indonesia’s engagement in Codex and global regulatory science ecosystems.

The workshop reaffirmed that food regulation is not only a public protection mechanism, but also a strategic enabler of:
